After reading the newspaper, news on the web, magazines, and so forth, I need to take
a breath and relax myself!
So much waste, so much dwelling on horrible incidents and potential disasters.
So right now, and I hope you join me, I am going to take in a few deep, mindful breaths.
As I do so, I am going to visualize all the trauma, all that which I CANNOT do anything about, leaving with my exhalation. This is not to “deny” problems, but to attend to
my own well-being. For if I am to do ANYTHING about ANYTHING, I must empower myself with positive thoughts and strong intellect.
In breathing my inhalation I think about drawing in fresh oxygen, getting it to my brain (which needs 50% more to think optimally), and regenerating my spirit and my body.
In breathing out I am letting negativity push out down my arms and through my fingertips, and I am releasing in order to think in more positive terms. That will enable me to “handle” what is happening in MY WORLD….and to touch, what I am able, in the world of others.
Respect yourself and honor your life.
Another few minutes of mindful breathing and I am up from the computer and out to accomplish a few things, and enjoy the moments of my life. I hope you do the same.
We’re alive and we certainly aren’t bored!
I do not revel in pronouncing someone has died. I am mentioning it for a reason.
The gentleman, Billy Mays was fifty years old. I saw a news broadcast in which he was telling about a rough airplane ride, and how he’d hit his head very hard. He was in good spirits, even saying he had a hard head, with a big smile.
When his wife found him it was assumed perhaps the head was injured seriously and that caused his death. Not so!
It was heart disease – a clogged artery. Obviously no one knew. Think about it. If you are even a bit overweight, or you eat high fat foods, or you haven’t had blood work done for a while – man or woman – REMEMBER, clogged arteries don’t always show you the path your body is taking. Clogged arteries can kill you.
Please – be body aware and check up on yourself and your REAL health. You only have one place to live…and that’s your body!
My heart is with those who suffer such unexpected loss – all those who leave children and mates – God bless them all.
Aside from death- heat stress causes a rise in body temperature and heart rate, loss of concentration and difficulty in focusing on a task, irritability and/or sickness, little or no desire to drink anything, fainting – and then of course death! Heat is nothing to fool around with as it takes many lives each year.
If someone obviously has one or more of these symptoms it’s possibly heat stroke: call for help and then get the person to a shady or cool place. If you can soak the victim’s clothing with cool water and fan him or her vigorously to increase cooling.
Heat exhaustion results from not drinking enough replacement fluids. It can cause weakness, fatigue, giddiness, nausea, or headache. The skin is clammy and moist while body temperaature is slightly elevated. Get the victim to a cool place and let him or her rest and have a drink of water or an electrolyte solution such as Gatorade. That restores potassium and salt. In severe cases the victim may vomit or pass out. Call for help – don’t be afraid it’s “not serious enough”. It could be a matter of life!
Heat cramps are painful spasms of the muscles and are caused by loss of salt in the body. Get the victim to drink Gtorade or anything that is an electrolyte solution. Seek medical attention in the case of severe cramping.
Heat can cause you to faint! Don’t know if you knew it or not, but when I had a severe muscle spasm in my back (cause unknown) – I fainted – and I broke my leg! Be careful and prevent any heat related problems BEFORE they happen. If someone faints try to get the victim on they back. When consciousness is regained the victim should recover after a brief period of walking around slowly.
A heat rash can be extensive and can be complicated by infection. Heat rash can be so uncomfortable that sleep is disrupted. It can even impede performance of any task and can result in a temporary total disability. If someone has heat rash, place the victim in a cool place and allow the skin to dry.
BE SURE TO WEAR SUNSCREEN. YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOUR BODY, THE BODIES OF YOUR KIDS, YOUR GRANDMA’S FRAGILE BODY. EVEN IF ONLY IN THE SUN FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF. ALWAYS TRY TO TAKE WATER (IN A SMALL ICE CHEST IT CAN STAY COOL).
BE SAFE. HAVE FUN AND GOD BLESS!
To all you guys who take this urgent and important job – CONGRATULATIONS : You are molding human beings who will someday be responsible for life changing, and world changing events!
YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB! Everyone gets impatient, tired, and makes mistakes!
We are all human, and this is the toughest job you will ever have in your life….and the most important!
GOOD on you and GOD on you! THANKS FOR STICKING TO IT!!!! Your reward is ENJOYING them as they grow, and seeing them in the future. Have a wonderful day!
…….take advantage of the moments you have in your life. Really, for all the planning and dreams, you are living your dream IF YOU MAKE IT SO! No matter what is happening, stressful or not, you are in charge of how you respond and the choices you make!
Yesterday I saw an unbelievable woman at the grocery store yesterday. As I started across the street to the store I saw an elderly woman who was totally bent with her face looking at the road. She couldn’t look a head nor to the sides. With cane in hand she began the long walk across the street.
I wanted to do something. Suddenly I felt protective of her and started walking slower. I wanted to see her safely to the store. I hesitated to ask if she needed help because she was okay and keeping her freedom in the ability to do it herself. Together, she slowly, and I quietly, made our way across the road.
She made it and I sighed a breath of relief. My immediate thoughts fast-forwarded to the moment and I realized how grateful I should be for what I have this moment. Fleeting they are.
Earlier I went to physical therapy for my wrist. It’s still very painful but yesterday I went several hours with little pain.
When I came to a big mess of traffic and road construction I saw a little old lady, and I mean LITTLE and VERY OLD! She was so skinny and her white thick hair fell in curls to her shoulder. She rode right along with traffic then headed across the street to the construction area. There she enjoyed the downhill slope and her speed increased. She maneuvered and wiggled her way to a point of less traffic and no construction.
Again I sighed a breath of relief for her safety. It made me realize that even when we get very old we still have the choice of what we will do and the state of our minds. She needed to (or wanted to) ride that bike exactly where she was. She did it. If I’d seen her in a market I would NEVER have believed it.\
Take a lesson from these wise women who forge ahead no matter what the circumstance. We are young and healthy. Get to it, and smile and laugh often.
Cuddle today. A child, a grandma, a partner, anyone you can! It’s healing for you both. If you don’t have anyone to cuddle catch the hug I am sending via cyberspace, and hug yourself!
CREATE a wonderful day!
OVER 80% of medical visits originate from stress induced reactions upon the human body! Stress changes chemical combinations within us and drives us to the “fight or flight” stage, which in turn accelerates wear and tear on the organs, muscles and all the inner workings of the body. It also plays havoc with our minds, and can literally be debilitating!
This culture is the instant gratification culture. We want what we want, and we want it now! In learning to TRULY change your life, and MANAGE any stress, you must dedicate time to practice techniques, and be consistent. Does that sound so very difficult?
Herein lies the problem. This culture has us going so many directions at once, and believing the list of duties MUST be completed, that we are driving ourselves mad!
Each day has 1,440 minutes in it….that is 525,600 minutes in one average year. Ten
minutes a day devoted to stress management education and practice still leaves you
1,430 minutes a day….and 521,950 minutes a year to devote to all these other tasks you deem important enough to leave you frazzled, irritated, and less than feeling wonderful! Come on now, that doesn’t make sense.
Here is the choice: 1. Watch your stress levels keep rising with no resolve in sight. Prime your body for a heart attack and your life for constant turmoil. 2. Love yourself and your family enough to take 10 minutes a day to CHANGE YOUR LIFE and the lives of those around you.
I think the second choice is worth 10 minutes of consistent practice on managing stress. You WILL FIND YOU LIKE IT! You WILL FIND YOU WILL INCREASE YOUR practice time as you get “in the habit”. We are creatures of habit and we can develop habits easily. Why not a pittance in time to develop a life style that will enhance your mind and the health of your body simultaneously?
Whether you try my CD or someone else’s CD , in my heart of hearts I WANT YOUR LIFE TO BE BETTER FOR ALL CONCERNED! Of course I believe you should pay a one time fee for the CD and let me help you create new brain cells, and be rid of negative thoughts and actions. I charge much more than that for 1 hour of personal training. I personally selected the original music, and put 3 relaxations on the CD – for “newcomers” and for those familiar with it all. Over 30 years I have seen people change their demeanor to an empowered and calm personality – miracles can happen.
Please go to my new website to check it out. I have a couple of samples of the CD you can listen to, a couple of articles and my complete biography.

My husband calls me “The human happy face” – I practice what I teach
and I want this joy and empowerment to be YOURS! I TRULY CARE! FYI, I will only advertise on this blog according to my subject matter, and NOT often!
Though I know this blog is new, and I do appreciate the readers and comments – I am pondering whether it is worth the time for me to write it any longer. I have been a fitness trainer and counselor for 30 years and love to help people.
However, if only less than a handful read this – who am I helping? The wind? I am not
feeling negative or down about this. Just feel like time is of the essence and tonight I
am going to evaluate if the time I spend doing this (and writing my other blog) could actually be spent doing something that actually means something – such a volunteering, or maybe just taking the time to WALK or visit or be active in life. Sometimes I think
all the blog writing just separates people and is nothing REAL in one’s life except sitting in front of “the machine”.
My opinion, my expertise in health and fitness, my time – hmmmmmmmm. Guess I will
think and pray about it tonight. Have a wonderful evening. Make a priority list in your life. We have this moment. Now the next. And the next….it is fleeting.
Be sure to use sunscreen! If you must tan, use a natural tanner. I kid you not, if just a FEW YEARS your skin will be wrinkly and tough as leather. You may have spotty skin, or skin that just tans in a few places. Even worse, I know someone who has had skin cancer over most of his visible body and had to have it cut out – even on the face.
SERIOUSLY – no matter how fabulous you THINK you look, getting older is hard enough.
Don’t ruin your skin! Also, if a product says “waterproof” don’t believe it. You need to lather on sunscreen often on hot days you are out in the sun for the day.
You only have ONE body to live in and one face. Check it out! Don’t be STUPID and pay money to look older and die younger. No matter what anybody else says, you are the one residing in your body. CARE FOR IT!
Also remember to hydrate often in the summer. The heat causes more deaths than any other single cause of death. This is a fact often not brought to our attention.
Thrive and stay alive with a fine meld of wisdom and emotion. Don’t buy into the thought that exterior “beauty” is the most important thing. When you start getting older you will see what a lie that is, and if you are damaging yourself when you are younger….
well, all choices are yours to make!
http://www.globalspan.net/bloat.htm
“Bloat is a very serious health risk for many dogs, yet many dog owners know very little about it. According to the links below, it is the second leading killer of dogs, after cancer. It is frequently reported that deep-chested dogs, such as German Shepherds, Great Danes, and Dobermans are particularly at risk. This page provides links to information on bloat and summarizes some of the key points we found in the sites we researched. Although we have summarized information we found about possible symptoms, causes, methods of prevention, and breeds at risk, we cannot attest to the accuracy. Please consult with your veterinarian for medical information.
If you believe your dog is experiencing bloat, please get your dog to a veterinarian immediately! Bloat can kill in less than an hour, so time is of the essence. Notify your vet to alert them you’re on your way with a suspected bloat case. Better to be safe than sorry!
The technical name for bloat is “Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus” (“GDV”). Bloating of the stomach is often related to swallowed air (although food and fluid can also be present). It usually happens when there’s an abnormal accumulation of air, fluid, and/or foam in the stomach (“gastric dilatation”). Stress can be a significant contributing factor also. Bloat can occur with or without “volvulus” (twisting). As the stomach swells, it may rotate 90° to 360°, twisting between its fixed attachments at the esophagus (food tube) and at the duodenum (the upper intestine). The twisting stomach traps air, food, and water in the stomach. The bloated stomach obstructs veins in the abdomen, leading to low blood pressure, shock, and damage to internal organs. The combined effect can quickly kill a dog.
Be prepared! Know in advance what you would do if your dog bloated. If your regular vet doesn’t have 24-hour emergency service, know which nearby vet you would use. Keep the phone number handy.
Always keep a product with simethicone on hand (e.g., Mylanta Gas (not regular Mylanta), Gas-X, etc.) in case your dog has gas. If you can reduce or slow the gas, you’ve probably bought yourself a little more time to get to a vet if your dog is bloating.

this immediately.
Symptoms
Typical symptoms often include some (but not necessarily all) of the following, according to the links below. Unfortunately, from the onset of the first symptoms you have very little time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) to get immediate medical attention for your dog. Know your dog and know when it’s not acting right.
* Attempts to vomit (usually unsuccessful); may occurt every 5-30 minutes
* This seems to be one of the most common symptoms & has been referred to as the “hallmark symptom”
* “Unsuccessful vomiting” means either nothing comes up or possibly just foam and/or mucous comes up
* Doesn’t act like usual self
* Perhaps the earliest warning sign and may be the only sign that almost always occurs
* We’ve had several reports that dogs who bloated asked to go outside in the middle of the night. If this is combined with frequent attempts to vomit, and if your dog doesn’t typically ask to go outside in the middle of the night, bloat is a very real possibility.
* Significant anxiety and restlessness
*One of the earliest warning signs and seems fairly typical
“Hunched up” or “roached up” appearance
*This seems to occur fairly frequently
* Lack of normal gurgling and digestive sounds in the tummy
* Many dog owners report this after putting their ear to their dog’s tummy.
* If your dog shows any bloat symptoms, you may want to try
* Bloated abdomen that may feel tight (like a drum)
Despite the term “bloat,” many times this symptom never occurs or is not apparent
Pale or off-color gums
Dark red in early stages, white or blue in later stages
* Unproductive gagging
* Heavy salivating or drooling
* Foamy mucous around the lips, or vomiting foamy mucous
Unproductive attempts to defecate
Licking the air
Seeking a hiding place
Looking at their side or other evidence of abdominal pain or discomfort
May refuse to lie down or even sit down y stand spread-legged
May curl up in a ball or go into a praying or crouched position
May attempt to eat small stont Drinking excessilet Heavy or rapid pantinet Shallow breathingt Cold mouh membranes
Apparent weakness; unable to stand or has a spread-legged stance
Especially in advanced staget Accelerated heartbeat
Heart rate increases as bloating progressest Weak pulse
Collapse
you must check your dog . It comes . He can’t stop from his agony to be your dog – no looks of love – just agonyl. …..from nowhwere and kills in an hour. It is painful Surgery is thousands and cannot guarantee a success. It could happen again and he was 12 and suffering with arthritis – he needed to go, so as we held him in our arms and whispered in his ears we say, “we love you”..the gentle soul who gave him the shot was loving and tender. The nurse joined in on positive and peaceful love – and witin 10 seconds of the shot he was gone. They made sure. No flailing, no pain, only a shot that makes his exit with ease.
Remember these things about bloat. I never thought I would see it or know about it, but if it ever happens again, I willl know what to, and God I never hope to go through this again.
Wish I could go pet Buckie / or scratch him. He is sleeping with the family until the big awakening. I believe anything that truly has love (and my buck certainly did) – has an eternal spirit.
“By everyone will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. “
John13:15.
My buckie was full of love and loyalty and we will see him again.
I read a statistic recently that declared that children laugh over 400 times a day and adults only laugh about 15 times a day. To me that is very sad. It indicates that because of all the responsibility and stress in life, we have forgotten our sense of humor and the ability to spontaneously laugh. We take things so seriously that we don’t see a “funny side” to much that
transpires in our daily lives.
Laughter is actually good for your health! When we laugh it lowers our blood pressure. Our
biochemical state is changed when we laugh. Laughter decreases stress hormones while it also tends to increase the ability to fight infections,
Laughter also protects the heart. The University of Maryland Medical Center did a study that
indicated people with heart disease were 40 percent less likely to laugh in various situations
presented to them (compared to people of the same age without heart disease.)
When we laugh we relieve stress and actually improve our brain function. Laughing eases muscle tension and actually tones our intestinal function. Laughter stimulates both sides of the brain and can enhance learning.
When we keep our sense of humor, others like to associate with us. There are so many benefits I won’t mention them all, but the list goes on and on.
I want to offer a suggestion about humor. There is one kind of “humor” that is not beneficial.
When jokes and laughter take punches at others, and are hurtful, you are actually increasing
the pain of others, and isolating yourself, as well. Don’t do that, please:)
Laughter’s best benefits are shared when others are laughing too. I admit though, I think I am really funny, and I see many situations as humorous as opposed to being difficult. I’ve cracked myself up and laughed until rolling on the floor with my sides hurting from the laughter. My
husband says there is an eight year old trapped in my body.
Mama told me one time, “Think of life as a party. It started before you got here. It will continue after you leave. Try not to take everything so seriously. Take the high road and
have a good laugh more often.”
How right she was. So start today and find your sense of humor. There are constantly things around that can cause us to laugh. Rent a funny movie. Tickle someone and it might tickle you too. Read a few jokes. Listen to the unrestricted laughter of a child. HAVE FUN!! This is YOUR LIFE!
